Janie Miller-Jones

I grew up on a farm in Ramsey, Illinois, a small town of about 1,000. My parents have since retired, but dad was a farmer and rural letter carrier and my mom an art and social studies/government teacher. While in High School and College I had the normal jobs most teenagers and young adults have. Aside from household chores I babysat, picked strawberries, waitressed and worked at Bonanza and Wal-Mart. In between College and Law School I was a bank teller and worked at a factory.
I attended Illinois State University in Normal, Illinois, where I received my B.S. in 1993. I had a double major in Business Administration and Recreation and Park Administration. I earned my Juris Doctorate at the Southern Illinois University College of Law in 1999. While in Law School I interned at the Attorney General's Office in the revenue litigation division as well as at the Jackson County Public Defender's Office. I also worked a retail job and in the Law School Library.
In 1994 I enlisted in the Illinois Army National Guard. I have been in the Guard for 14 years. The last 5 of which I have spent in the Judge Advocate General's Corps (JAG). I am currently a Captain.
I have been working in the Public Defender's Office here in Champaign County for nearly 9 years. I have worked the traffic, abuse/neglect and felony caseloads. I have handled a smattering of juvenile delinquent and involuntary commitment cases. During my time here I have tried over 50 felony cases including 3 murders as well as home invasions, attempted murder, predatory criminal sexual assault, armed robbery, armed violence, residential burglary and a myriad of drug crimes as well as less serious felony offenses.
I live in Rantoul with my husband Robert and our two children Savanna and Niko.
